Annual Giving Campaign
Annual Giving Campaign 2011 – We Thank You!
A special thank you to all of our friends and family that donated to last year’s Annual Giving Campaign. Because of your generous support we were able to renovate the school’s kitchen over the summer and started the year with a safer, more efficient and more cheerful kitchen that is used every day by our parents to prepare snack for the children.

Annual Giving Campaign 2012 Has Begun!

What we are raising funds for:
The central feature on the Rose Scharlin school yard is our beautiful redwood climbing structure. Built specifically for Rose Scharlin by a former parent, the beloved climbing structure is an integral part of the childrens’ imaginative and physical play; on any given day you may find it fulfilling the role of pirate ship, castle, rocket ship or hideout. Unfortunately, the wood beneath the sand is rotting and the structure needs retrofitting. This is a major undertaking that involves removing all of the sand in the fall zone surrounding the structure, lifting the structure and retrofitting the part of the structure that stays beneath the sand with cement and steel. The sand that forms the fall zone then needs to be replaced with a material that does not promote asthma (like silica-based sand does.)
Our Goal: $10,000
We have the ambitious goal of raising $10,000 to fix our beloved play structure a nd replace the sand so that it is safe for the little ones for years to come.
Please help us meet our personal goal of raising $10,000 towards fixing our play structure.

About the school:
Rose Scharlin Cooperative Nursery school, founded in 1939 (moved to its current location 65 years ago), has the distinction of being Los Angeles’ oldest cooperative nursery school and the model upon which many local schools pattern themselves. The Rose Scharlin motto “where nature meets nurture” is apt in describing this outdoor oasis that not only nurtures the students who attend, but nurtures parents, families and the community as well.
Rose Scharlin is a non-profit cooperative, owned and operated by the parents of the current students. Parents participate in the school’s daily operations, administration and maintenance through regular work days as teaching assistants, committee work, fund-raising, and monthly business meetings.
